Moomsteatern, in collaboration with Helsingborg City Theatre, presents a new stage production based on Frankenstein—a powerful and moving interpretation of Mary Shelley’s classic story.

Scientist Victor Frankenstein attempts to overcome the limits of nature by creating life from dead matter. When his creation comes to life, he abandons it in horror. Left behind is a being who is intelligent but lacks language, relationships, and love—and who is forced to confront a world where anything different is met with fear and rejection.

The Creature encounters the world, nature, humanity, and its own existence in a stark landscape where the desolation of nature meets the rise of industry. Here unfolds a story of loneliness, vulnerability, and a deep longing to belong.

The production is based on Nick Dear’s acclaimed adaptation for the Royal National Theatre in London and is being reworked by director Marie Parker Shaw together with Moomsteatern’s Artistic Director, Pelle Öhlund. Through the collaboration between the two theatres, the story is brought to life by an ensemble of actors with and without disabilities, deepening the production’s exploration of exclusion, the pursuit of power, responsibility, and humanity’s fear of the unfamiliar.

The performance is presented in Swedish. It will first be staged at Moomsteatern in Malmö and will then transfer to Helsingborg City Theatre.
